Alana Troutt

Alana Troutt
Alana Troutt is the Policy Director for Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer, Sr. and Senior Consultant for the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color. Alana has over 10 years of experience working with the legislature which included special consultant in the Senate on social innovation financing/social impact bonds. Previously, Alana was the Principal Consultant of the Troutt Group, LLC, a public affairs consulting firm, whose clients included Pfizer, Boehringer Ingelheim and Hewlett Foundation. Alana holds a Masters in Accounting and a BA in Education and having taught from K to University, considers herself a teacher at heart. Alana serves on the Board of the California Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and Healthy African American Families (HAAF). Originally from Trinidad & Tobago, she lives in Sacramento with her son.

Educators As Advocates for At Promise Students
Join Alana Trout and Dr. Elisha Smith Arrillaga in a compelling session exploring how to work with policymakers to develop state laws and policies that support your students and programs. Alana Troutt serves as staff to the Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color in California. Ms. Troutt has a wealth of experience in working with legislators and crafting constituent ideas into state policy. Her work with RAPSA attendees helped inform her work on ACR 102 (Opportunity Youth Reengagement Month); ACR 197 (From At Risk to At Promise), and two bills on Trauma Informed Schools for her Committee Chair Assembly member Reginald Jones-Sawyer (AB 2691 and AB 2701). Elisha Smith Arrillaga serves as Interim, Co-Executive Director of the Education Trust–West, a research and advocacy organization focused on educational justice and the high achievement for all students. Dr. Smith Arrillaga leads the organization’s work around racial justice and has extensive expertise in leading initiatives using multiple strategies for impacting state policy – leveraging research, media, direct action, and policymaker engagement. Ms. Trout and Dr. Smith Arrillaga promise to provide an inside look at how you can impact policy development for your schools and students.
