RAPSA, Alternative Accountability Policy Forum
Dear AAPF Guest:

The RAPSA Board and I look forward to meeting you at the 2019 Alternative Accountability Policy Forum from November 13th to the 15th. The event is designed to be intimate enough so that we all get to network and learn about each other’s students and programs.
Agenda
Welcome Reception
Wednesday November 13th from 5 to 6 pm will be the Welcome Reception hosted by the Marriott Coronado Island. Great food, carving stations, beer and wine and a roomful of education leaders who share your passion.
RAPSA Awards Luncheon
Thursday’s luncheon will introduce you to the 5 Courage Award recipients, each earning a $1,000 scholarship. This year RAPSA is recognizing the range of commitment among education leaders by granting two Heart Awards. One to a network district administrator for her lifetime of commitment, Dr. Linda Dawson and one to a classroom teacher Renee Schloss. Like all of you whose roles differ, their passion effects everything they do for at-promise youth. Our Vision Award recipient is California Assembly Member Reginald Jones-Sawyer, the author of the bill that changed “at-risk” to at-promise in State law. We greatly appreciate the Walton Family Foundation’s sponsorship of this event.

Closing Session
Don’t miss the closing session, an exclusive viewing of the film The Pushouts followed by a conversation with the film’s producer Dawn Valadez. The event takes place Friday from 11 to 12:30. Ms. Valadez is a social worker turned film producer who understands the challenges faced by our students and wants to share with you strategies for using the media to share why our students and our work is important to the broader community.

At-Risk to At-Promise Interviews
RAPSA Board Member and author Matthew LaPlante will be conducting interviews for RAPSA’s At-Risk to At-Promise initiative. He’d like to gain a deeper understanding of the intersections of experience, expertise and passion that exist in our community. We're in the process of building a toolkit that will help you engage in the organization and influencing that helps broaden support for at-promise youth, and we want to get a better sense of what you're already doing to build positive culture, address implicit bias, and address the factors that challenge our students. Sign up here

San Diego and Coronado Island
Coronado Island is located across San Diego Bay from downtown San Diego. The policy forum will be held at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa located at 2000 2nd St, Coronado, CA 92118 (phone: 619.435.3000).

There are many restaurants on Coronado, and downtown San Diego is across the bay via car or ferry. San Diego is known for its beaches, weather, microbreweries, and, of course, the AAPF. You can rent bicycles, surfboards, kayaks, and SUPs at and near the Marriott as well as many of the nearby beaches. You may want a wetsuit in November, and you can rent them, too. Ocean temperatures range from 65 to 69 degrees. Air temperature in mid-November is typically a low of 61 and a high of 71.

Thank you for all that you do for at-promise youth!
See you in San Diego.
